The Weight Of A 406 Brembo Caliper And Disc?

Recommended Posts

Powers

As per topic title.

Does anyone know the weight of a 406 brembo caliper and disc?

Also what size spacer is required to fit them under 206 nimrods?

Cheers.

Not sure on specific weights, but the Brembo caliper itself (sans pads) is very light, much lighter than a regular caliper, most of the weight is the pads themselves.

You need 307 283x26mm discs, and they aren't light at all, but again I have no specific weights, the whole setup will weigh more than standard I would have thought, but not as much as you'd imagine when you consider how much bigger it all is. Definately worth it.

Cheers for the replies.

What about 406 coupe discs(304mm) ? If i were to use these calipers i would use that size disc. The nimrods arnt a definate infact it was just out of curriosity, more likely to be 17" Speedlines.

Also regarding the nimrods what size spacer are required.

Thanks again.

You can't fit the v6 disc as its too big, the hub on the v6 must be different in terms of how far out the caliper sits, the extra disc would be wasted even if it did fit.

304mm discs just don't fit 1.9 hubs from what i've heard. They're too shallow so you'd need custom calliper brackets etc. etc.

But about 12kgs of that 18kgs is discs (callipers might have been more like 4kgs each). So around 13-14kgs.

Hilgie uses 288mm xantia v6 discs with modification.

Its pointless going above 283mm anyway as the outer edge of the disc is inline with the outer edge of the pad anyway using a 283mm disc. the 406 hub must be different, pushing the caliper out to accomodate the larger disc.

There must be a braket on the market that allows them to fit as a lot of the French boys fit them onto 205 hubs with the Ø 305 x 28 size disc . I will investigate.

Jesus, that's a lot of weight for a disc. Wheel's and tyres weigh less than that!

i have it written somewhere (weighed everything brakes-related i've had laying around :D),

but from memory that's correct, about 3 kg's each for calipers, about 6 each for 283mm discs

and about 9 kg's each for 305 mm discs :o.

i also *think* 1.6 calipers were about 2.5 each while 1.9 were about 4-4.5 kg's each :).

My calipers and discs on the bike weigh 4kg combined!

The Xantia V6 discs (288mm like DrSeuss says) are a very good fit diameter wise. They do need modifcation though. It's only a 5mm difference between the 307 discs anyway.

But the Xantia V6 discs are 8kg each (!!!!!)

just to compair tarox 280mm discs weigh in at 5.1Kgs each, the alloy bells make a little difference but not alot, Each 10pot caliper is 2.4Kg's

all up weight of 15Kgs 2 calipers 2 discs no pads.

It might be worth looking for alloy bells might save quite abit of weigh on a bigger discs,
