driversdomainuk 8 Posted January 29, 2006 Hi My mutated 205 8v with twin carbs still is not failing to mistify me.. Anyway, was going to ask my garage to change sump gasket as it was leaking underside as it was at the garage anyway. However, they did say that it was not the sump gasket leaking and was in fact one of the breather pipes going in to the front of the block (just above the sump) for time reasons they could not do anymore - as I wanted it back, can always leave it for a while anyway. However, my oil filter is located on the front of the engine, sideways sitting near the gearbox, with the top of the filter facing the near side inner wheel strange..? AFAIK it should be facing the radiator? Questions: 1) Is there a reason why this should have been moved...????? 2) The car sicks up oil when traking it - Would you think this heavy breathing from the crankcase is also why oil is coming from one of these oil breathers, and causing the leak - maybe the two are related..??? 3) If the crankcase is going to die soon, why would it cause excess breathing..? Cheers guys
jackherer 543 Posted January 29, 2006 1) Is there a reason why this should have been moved...????? sounds like the remote filter/oil cooler mounted to 205s fitted with power steering.
driversdomainuk 8 Posted January 30, 2006 Hi Yes mine does have power steering - so is thius remote filter standard on cars with pas..?
Super Josh 4 Posted January 30, 2006 Hi Yes mine does have power steering - so is thius remote filter standard on cars with pas..? Yes, it's placed there to aid access to the filter, which is a Bugga to get to with all of the PAS kit in the way. It also acts as a heat exchanger to bring your oil upto working temperature( and to some extent to keep it cool when you thrash the car ). Josh
driversdomainuk 8 Posted January 30, 2006 So this would having nothing to do with the breather pipe leaking oil (one which goes into the block near to the same place the oil filter goes in, on non-pas cars)? Either the oil is leaking out or (more likely) it is being forced out due to the high crank pressure..? Which would explain why it sicks up loads of oil on track (or when being trashed)
Super Josh 4 Posted January 30, 2006 It's quite common for the breather hose to perish where it curves and enters the block. The 205s are getting to that age where most hoses will need replacing. I changed all of mine just to improve the reliability. You'll find that some of them are very expensive from a dealer Josh
