You might be interested in my new carbon fibre roof:

 

Still need to try and smooth out the front, but is much better than the bodge fest it was before (gaffa tape!)

How thick is it? Is there any support in it at all? Could you post some pictures from underneath (inside the car)?

Hi - sorry, shoud have said, it has 3M sticky back to it - it sits over the original metal. I did it as the roof looked nasty before this!

 

It is 1mm thick

It sits OVER the original metal? So it is added weight? Why didn't you just sprayed it black by hand? Isn't this a little expensive just for looks?

Yeah you have a good point, but it looks a lot better than spraying it black - it had been damaged and dented by previous owner....which is why I did not want to spray it - long story

 

It weigns around 0.5kg so does not weigh any more than a few tins of paint

Not being funny, but ....... If the roof was needed repairs, then why not do it properly, also it probably would have only cost you half the amount.

 

If the drivers sill was full or rot, would you just put in a bit of filler and the put a sticker over the top ????

I think it looks good... something a bit different and if the roof looked a bit gash it's a nice way to cover it up!!

 

Though at first I seriously thought you'd got a carbon roof like the M3 CSL!!

I was looking at the picture of a trackday car with a fully stripped interior but then an extra roof glued on it. Therefore my question to the topic starter. At first I too thought it was a carbon fibre roof to loose weight and not an added roof.

 

My car isn't standard, it isn't supposed to be and I can't remember tellings others to do so. So please explain your reply. Otherwise I'll never get rid of this smell and get me some fresh air. It hurts my neck too you know...

I agree with huckleberry I just dont get it. £150 to cover up a dented roof panel!

I personally would have spent the money else where, you could buy a full set of braided brake lines for that.

It deffinatly looks good and suits the rest of the car, although i can see some peoples points to it being point less.

 

Not tempted to cut the metal out and fit the sheet from scratch?
