Simes 248 2 Cars Posted January 29, 2006 It's cold at the moment so you'll be using more on start up for at least 10 mins. Do you have a power boost valve? Is your motor running rich?
Big_Jimbob 0 Posted January 29, 2006 I have a standard fuel pressure regulator, so i dunno if that could be the culprit?? It is running lean at idle i know that cause the plugs are grey when its been stood ticking over... i dunno about when its above idle tho...
Anthony 1,003 Posted January 29, 2006 Is the throttle switch set correctly? Do you have access to another AFM to rule that out?
Big_Jimbob 0 Posted January 29, 2006 the throttle cable is slightly slack when the pedal is not pressed, and it generally idles very well..... I dont have access to another afm, but the one i have i bought as an apparent re-conditioned unit about a yr ago, it had a lucas re-conditioning sticker on (mpg hasnt changed since then) it is immaculate inside.... as is all the throttle body and idle screw and all the pipes from air filter to tb... is it worth tryin another fuel pressure regulator? or afm? thanks guys for trying to help me get to the bottom of this.. Big_Jimbob 0 Posted January 30, 2006 Iv just changed the air filter, the origional one was a foam one and was filthy, now replaced with a paper one........ should have thought of replacing it before!!!
j_turnell 137 3 Cars Posted January 30, 2006 Have you got it on a Co machine to check its not running rich, was it setup after the new afm was put on?
stevec205gti 0 Posted February 2, 2006 Have you checked continuity of the wires between the ECU and temp sensor - if either of these are shot it'll overfuel regardless of what you connect to either end
Livelee 0 Posted February 2, 2006 Hi Sorry to hi jack the thread but my car also struggles for 250 miles to a tank. I'm not sure what is "normal" for my spec. It's an mi16 309, weighs 900kg with a full tank and has a 1.6gti gearbox. Does 250 miles sound reasonable?
hodgy 0 Posted February 3, 2006 sounds silly but you tried puttin a load of REDX in your petrol and in the inlet? worked on mine been gettin an extra 20mile to £
richard 0 Posted February 4, 2006 What fuel you running? UL on mine really is poor. depends on what sort of driving your doing...lots of stop start ive seen around 150 out of a tank...and on a single long run (driving like miss daisy) ive got around 370. (1.6) The norm is around 250ish though. But then again i love that 3rd gear pull
Big_Jimbob 0 Posted February 5, 2006 Iv changed the air filter and re-set the timing now, andiv just finished the first tank full, This was a mixed run, and i managed to get about 31mpg, so its gettin better, oh n that is running 97ron fuel.... do you reccon a rollin road session would be worth it to squeeze some more out of her and make sure she is set up alright???? thanks jim
