jonarob 0 Posted January 29, 2006 Now, I'm looking at buying a 1.6 205. There's one on ebay and in the piccies the STOP light is clearly on when the car is ticking over. What I was wondering was whether the stop light comes on when you start the car every time for a few minutes until oil pressure gets up? Or is there something wrong? hengti 2 Posted January 29, 2006 (edited) The stop light should go out as soon as the engine starts It's triggered by a number of sensors - main ones being low oil pressure/high water temp (expect there may be others as well). What do the gauges read in the photo? Oil pressure is top left; water temp bottom right - oil pressure too low/water temp too high are problems (although could be switch related) Could also be a problem with the alternator not charging (possible at v low revs/stalling speed) - this triggers the stop light on some cars (not sure about 205 though) What does the seller have to say? Anthony 1,003 Posted January 30, 2006 The STOP light is trigged by two things only - high coolant temperature, or low oil pressure. It has nothing to do with brakes, alternator or anything else... The STOP light should go out as soon as the engine starts and the oil pressure climbs - the STOP light comes on around 0.6 bar oil pressure, so you should have more than that less than a second after the engine starts. If that light is on with the car ticking over, and the coolant temperature needle isn't in the red, then it's either going to be a wiring fault or the engine is nackered and has cronically low oil pressure at tickover.
