Normski 1 Posted January 26, 2006 I've just bought a set of these (GHA306D) for my 205 and I was wondering about the top mounts. First of all, will they fit with the standard top mounts? I asume they will. And would any of you using these recomend fitting aftermarket top mounts? (so the geometry could be altered) My car is a track only machine running on slicks. It has ~1 degree of negitive camber just now (309 arms). And about setting them up. What height would be best for the track? (So the wishbones are parallel to the ground?) Initial damper settings to try? Thanks.
Jonmurgie 2 Posted January 26, 2006 Yes they will fit with stadard top moutns... No you won't be able to use aftermarket topmount with them as they are, you need to get them modified at GAZ to take the different topmount. Do a search on GAZ and top mounts as this has been discussed in detail before... Lowering, I run so I can get around 1 finger between the front wheel and arch (no idea how much lower than standard that is) and the rear to match. People generally suggest lowering a 205 around 25-35mm at most. As for the damper settings, that' kind of up to how you like it, though I'd suggest putting the rears on full hard and the fronts around medium and see how you get on
Normski 1 Posted January 27, 2006 Ok, thanks for that. When I get the wheel alignment done, is there any advantage to be had in changing the toe setting from standard? It's set to + 20' (which is the standard setting). Cheers.
Jonmurgie 2 Posted January 27, 2006 I've tried a few different toe settings, positive and negative and to be honest I've found 0 toe to be the best, as have a few other track boys
veloce200 3 Posted January 28, 2006 I've tried a few different toe settings, positive and negative and to be honest I've found 0 toe to be the best, as have a few other track boys On a short twisty circuit like Lydden toe out generates a lot more front end grip mid corner. I've run as much as 2 degrees there. In the wet toe out prevents understeer. However toe out wrecks the tyres and also causes a lot of drag so on a fast circuit or road would agree 0 deg. Normski 1 Posted January 28, 2006 Knockhill is where I have my fun. I recon that falls in the short and twisty category. I think i'll try it toed out very slightly. When I got the scoobs' geometry done at the same place he set that toed out slightly, -5' all round. Thanks all.
