brake line spanners are normally combination 11m and 13mm and you need both so they are perfect :P

I intend to, hense this topic, as I didn't know what size to buy.

Went in to Halfords a few days ago but forgot to investigate the required size before I went. Was hoping it might be a simple case of finding they had the boxes marked by the vehicle manufacturer that they would fit, but alas no. They had two different sizes so I left it and thought I ask here so I can buy the correct one.

If I were you, I'd keep putting some release oil, like plusgas, on the connections for a while before you attempt to undo them.

and even then, I'd have a good vise grip and a brake pipe flaring pool nearby!

Generally 10 or 11mm on most 205's I've worked on, depending if the brake lines are original or have been replaced. As said, I'd make sure you've got access to getting some new lines made up as the damned things have a nasty habit of siezing and shearing...

See steve, I told you. Automec is the way forward.

Isn't the car going to be a 1.6 with a 1.9 beam though? If so, unless you change the whole brake system over, the Automec kit is no good as you'd need a mixture of lines from the 1.9 and 1.6 kits.

For a car that is either complete 1.6 or complete 1.9 though, you certainly can't go wrong with the Automec kit and it does make replacing all the brake lines very easy and straightforward indeed

When i changed the front hoses on my 1.6 gti, the copper pipes were 11 mile, cos 10 was too small and 12 to big,

Ur right about the plusgas, one side was really seized, i thought i was gonna snapped it when the vice-grips kept slipping, but did it in the end.

cheers

Thanks for all the advice.

Dr Suess, you have permission to feel smug.

The plan is indeed to swap my 1.9 beam on to the 1.6. But I'm now not going to do this until I have got rid of the 1.9 and have a parking permit on the 1.6, so that if anything goes wrong I'm not in s*it when I have to leave the car parked up for a while. The 1.9 beam will live in the back of the car until the process is complete.

If the rear connection on the 1.6 beam come apart with no problems then I'll just mate the 1.9 beam up, and then when I have more money and time I'm going to buy a 1.9 Automec kit, braided lines, and convert it all over to 1.9 spec including compensators and master cylinder.
