dee205 3 Posted January 21, 2006 I'm planning on rebuilding my Mi engine. Can anyone think of anything else I need to do or get? Regrind the crank. New big end bearings. Balance the bottom end. Which parts? Pistons, rods and crank? Water pump ARP bolts. Cleaned up head with new seals. Anything else? Future plans are cam and throttle bodies. Can't afford it all at once so was gonna get the cams and head done first then go for Tb's at a later date. What sort of gains can I expect from a set of cam on their own. Alot of stuff but every little helps! Cheers Damien

mfield 20 Posted January 21, 2006 The cam's are really decided on what you have, std management will not cope with what tb's can. So do you go with the cam's you can get away with and when you get the tb's get no real gain from the cam's or go for the lumpy cam's and have dire running if at all on the std management ? I would really, really, really recomend not getting cam's untill you get the tb's.
Bonzai 2 Posted January 22, 2006 speak to matt at qep, get bottom end gasket kit, head gasket, head set, cambelt kit, main bearings, big end bearings, head bolts, piston rings, water pump and oil pump if you can afford it. find a local engine shop and get them to dynamically balance your bottom end, this should include crank, fly, pulley and bolt, pistons and rods. all this will set you back a few few hundred quid
dee205 3 Posted January 22, 2006 Cheer guys. Think I'll leave the cams until I get the Tb's as said. Fair enough point seeing as the whole induction side of things will change and cam characteristics would need changing too. Damien
