Ant 2 Posted January 21, 2006 Hi all, After 6 months of looking for a low millage 2.0 turbo ( with no luck ) ive decided to look at repairing an Mi16 engine ive had in the garage for a while. Its got a knocking bottom end... Ive been told i just need to whip the sump off and check the shells and crank.. But ive got no idea what i'm supposed to be looking for.. My mate reckons it may just be the shells, and the crank could be fine.. Can anyone tell me what i need to look for to repair it.. Cheers Ant
DrSeuss 0 Posted January 21, 2006 Get the crank out and checked by a reputable machine shop would seem the first port of call. Then go from there. It'd be wise to invest in a full rebuild if the crank is salveagable.
Miles 331 1 Cars Posted January 21, 2006 Yep if it's been driven in that state the crank is more often than not BER, Don't just change the shells and hope for the best as it will fail in no time at all
