Gonna Need New Wheels!

Recommended Posts

simon205Mi16

I was thinking of putting 225/45/16 on my 205 with spacers and wide arches but just realised i would be able to fit 245/45/16 but i would have to buy new wheels as mine are only 7J.

But how wide would the wheels need to be to accompany the 245 wide tyres??

Thanks

The 245 sections tyres I've got for the GT6 are on 9.5" wide wheels if that's any help? :)

you'll need a HUGE offset the get 9.5in wide wheels to clear the struts/trailing arms.

I had 215/40/16 on 7.5j wheels and it was tight!

Think im gonna go for my original plan of 225/45 with spacers would 8J be ok for wheel width?

Are they still going to be within the line of the bodywork for your MOT?

A 245 tyre is actually fine on 7.5J. My brother ran a 245 tyre on the back of his 328i Sport for ages not realising that it should have been an 8.5J rim (wider rims on the back) but we reckon someone reaplced one of the rears with a 7.5J front, but it looks fine and didn't seem to overhang.

On a 9.5J rim I bet they look a little stretch (the 245s on the back of my M Coupe look a little stretched and they 9J).

cool so they woulf fit on my existing wheels.

Think they are 7 maybe 7.5 will have to check.

As for wheels in line with bodywork i am having extra wide arches put on and the wheels will not be overhanging them...

I wouldn't run a 245 on a 7" rim, that's probably too wide, but from experience they seemed fine on a 7.5" rim.

Why do you want wide arches if your not going to have wide rims?

I will have wide wheels eventually but for the time being spacers and wide tyres will fill the arches just as well

They look pretty square to me (the one furthest away in the pic):

Diffiuclt to see from those pictures but the sidewalls on my Coupe front to back are noticeably difference since the fronts are 225s on a 7.5J rim and sit better than the 245s on a 9J rim on the back (which are about 36mm wider yet the tyre is only 20mm wider). On that tyre bible website it seems to come up saying that 245 is around the min limit for 9.5J. I think BMW fit 255s on 18x9J E46 wheels usually.
