Just went out to top up with oil as its been sounding a bit tappety the past few weeks when cold. B) opened up the bonnet took off the oil filler cap and was confronted with this................ :)

Also after filling it up with some oil i started it up and reved it from under the bonnet and held it up around 2K and the cams seem to be vibrating or something in the head area... :o

Any ideas on what and how????

Cheers

you added oil because it sounded tappety?!? did it need oil in the first place? i normally use the dipstick. :)

If the mayo stuff is normal what does it mean if you're not getting any at all? :)

it was tappety so i checked the dipstick first :)B)

and was just under min....

So is this mayo normal on the Mi as i have noticed it takes an air feed from the manifold inlet just after the filter so surely it would get some moisture from that??

mayo's fine, but no mayo's better

all the mayo is is condensation in the pipes mixing with the oil - resulting in the yellow gunk. It's most likely to produce it after a short run because the engine doesn't get hot enough to evaporate the moisture

Ahh the good old mayo myths. Read any guides or mags on 2nd hand car buying tell you to run away fast if there's mayo on the oil filler cap..... They neglect to mention that many cars' engines get mayo naturally and that it's not always indicative of a blow head gasket. I've found long journies don't burn it off unless you're doing 100mph +.

Might be worth worrying about if you still get it bad in the middle of summer.
