Water And Air Temp Sensors ...on Emerald Ecu?

Recommended Posts

pugpete1108

just emailed dave walker at emerald and he has quoted me £550 for the ecu and £ 312 each for the sensors, and as i'm looking to do a bike throttle body conversion on a budget i am not really sure i can stretch that far.

Obviously i will defo need the ecu but does anyone know of any other sensors that will work with the ecu,

he also mentioned using an 1800 golf dizzy and vauxhall cap instead or the std gti dizzy,...woild that be a gti 16v or 8v or are they both the same ..dont know vw's at all!

i'm sure there is a lot of people done this before but not quite as tight as me!! ha

cheers guys

i'm going to fit bike throttle bodies to my s16 engine at some point, running megasquirt. If your comfortable with the concept of mapping your own engine management, it can be done for far less then the cost of an emerald.

I suspect he meant £12 each for the sensors :o

Why not use a coilpack?

just read your post about megasquirt , would be interested but was sort of looking for a backup if i cock it all up , as i am not up to speed on the ins and outs of engine managment (as it seems are everyone else on this forum) don't think it would be a problem building the board as i am a part qualified sparky just not sure about wiring it to the car itself and actually getting it to run!! what would i need other then to buoild the ecu:

whet happens to the afm?

what about ignition ( use dizzy or go without?)

and waht sensors are needed?

it would appear i am a complete novice wouldn't it??!?!!?

by the way i kind of figured the sensors would be slightly cheaper than 312 squid ( well hoped anyway)

You will need:

ECU

Loom

Std sensors can be used for coolant etc

Coilpack (for wasted spark setup)

Crank trigger

Manifold

Bodies

Filter

Mine is running bike bodies, or it was til it stopped running yesterday, they are a pain in all honesty :)

Ok, firstly

that topic should give you some ideas as to what is needed. The good thing is, any rule that goes for the mi goes for the 8v, no problems there.

Now, i'm not going to lie, megasquirt is not as good as a KMS, in that your limited to 12x12 mapping tables. Don't let this put you off. In almost every other respect it is equal.

The issue you will have is with the mapping. It is not idiot proof and you are expected to learn a fair amount in the process. However, once you have costed up equivalent systems, its minor downfalls are incomparable to the sense of achievement from DIY.

You will also save at least 300 quid before you take into account the extra's needed with Emerald or KMS.

Read though megasquirt.info and www.msefi.com and consider it seriously, there is a wealth of information which i find extremely interesting to understand.
