Mi16 Exhaust System

Recommended Posts

Alan_M

After having lots of trouble stopping my exhaust blowing on my Mi16, i've decided to buy one of Miles Maniflow manifolds.

Currently, i've got a PS GrpN exhaust which is past its best, and by the sounds of it is a pain to fit to the 4-2-1 Maniflow manifold. Therefore i'd like to take the oppurtunity to get a bigger bore system, 2.25" seems to be the recommended size for an Mi16.

I've done a search and it seems that Ashley are far too loud, even though they sell a 2.25" system fairly cheap. I'd love to get something like the GrpN again but with bigger bore, but i'd imagine it'd be expensive due to custom made.

Other option is to get a matching Maniflow system which will probably cost through the nose.

Anybody got other options?

Anybody got the dimensions for the Mi16 GrpN exhaust?

I seem to remember there being mention that the Group N system sold by Autofive was a slightly larger bore than the PTS Group N that you've got, but can't remember the thread well enough to be sure if that was a rumour or whether that had been confirmed.

Or you could always go and buy a phat system with a tailpipe modeled on a dustbin to satisfy your muppet side... :P

I can recommened just a Magnex backbox and then have an exhaust place just make up a stainless pipe from the downpipe to the back box... then you'll have a nice stainless system with a tasty backbox, a nice note and a decent bore :P

got the 4-2-1 on mine as well, mated to a mongoose stainless steel system, which is the same bore that comes off the exhaust manifold 57mm.

If you talk to mongoose directly they`ll do you the system without the downpipe and it almost matches right up to the manifold (you just need to make up bit o piping to get the manifold and system together). Its quite fruity as well and not as noisy as my full magnex system when it was on my 1.9 8 valve. Its stainless and cost about £250.

The std Ph2 Pug exhaust fits without any problems at all, Nice bore size as the Gp'N' is far too small as I think it's based on the early Ph1 cars

How much are the Maniflow ones going for now?

I want to put one on mine mated to the Magnex system but I've heard people saying they crack and stuff..

I have Miles 4-2-1 manifold connected to a standard cat middle section and rear box.

No problems apart from those olive joints coming apart everytime I whack it on a speed bump

Keeps the boxes nice and standard, just pug replacements

Send me a PM for a price, Carriage to NI isn't cheap thou unless you know of another option bar the Post office.

The manifolds are fine, I;ve been using them for years and touch wood no problems yet.

You could get them Ali Sprayed to extend the service life but as they get hot enough rust is never really a issue

Does anyone kmow the BHP limit on a maniflow manifold when mated to a standard system? I thought the standard system was good for about 180 BHP, is this due to the bore or the standard manifold? If running big power would you need to upgrade to a larger bore system or would the later two part one have a large enough bore. Just that all of the large bore systems tend to be very noisy and, at my ripe old years, i like a nice quite exhaust :)

Dino and I both have 4-2-1 with our existing Magnex systems adapted to fit.

Ellisg and Super Josh have the 4-2-1 with an OE type exhaust, this is much quieter!

I'm running the maniflow 4-2-1 along with a full maniflow system, perfect match.

It sounds rather fruity and not too loud or boomy.

It was nearly £700 for the system with manifold when it was new a few years ago. I'm sure it's cheaper now though !

Im getting really fecked off with my Magnex middle box catching on speed humps. It even caught on the 4 poster when I had my tracking done :D My car isnt particularly low (Eibachs) so am seriously considering a std system again as even when my car was lower at the back than it is now I never had any clearance issues. Am also in favour of quiter systems too........getting a bit old now for noisy cars :D

Alan, I think your simplest fix is to get a Magnex system, its easy enough to fit, and seeing as you are a bit of a hooligan you shouldnt mind the noise as its not THAT loud to be honest - your car is a bit higher than mine too so clearance should be fine.

The mongoose doesn't do this like my magnex used to, because the centre box is round and actually doesnt stick out that much more than the floor pan. However the backbox is a little large. Personally i prefer the mongoose system, having had both magnex and mongoose (full systems).

I've got a Maniflow backbox off Rob the Sparky kicking around in the garage that has a 52mm inside diameter. Miles is getting a price for a centre section that will fit this and the 4-2-1 manifold.

If thats too expensive, i'll probably try and get a straight through bit of pipe that will although i'm concerned that this will be too loud!
