Clutch Cable Woes......

Recommended Posts

ajones12

I am currently trying to rebuild the engine bay in my H-plate 1.9 following a clutch change and need some help.........

When I was taking everything off, a mate removed the clutch cable assembly from the lever arm that moves the thrust bearing and I have no idea how the cable re-attaches to te gearbox including the bracket that seems to provide some rotational movement.

Does anyone have any pics of diagrams of how the whole thing fits together???? I'm a bit new to this game...

Any help is gratefully received!

Aaaarrrrggghhh........

Would be helpful to know whether you have a BE1 (lift up reverse) or a BE3 (reverse opposite 5th).

Prolly BE3 on H plate 1.9

Replaced cable on my 1.9 H plater recently - tricker than it looks at the first attempt!

There is a plastic grommet at the g'box end of the cable which clips into the alloy casing behind the clutch arm (helps to route the cable) - then the cable passes through the clutch arm and you've got another grommet and a big washer which you tighten the two nuts up against

Hope that makes sense

enjoy!

Thanks for the info. I also have a bracket dangling from the cable - where does this go? I assume it connects to the gearbox somehow. I will try and take a picture tonight to clarify what I mean!!!

Thanks again.

The only other bit that could be dangling is the grommet that pushes up into the bulkhead behind the brake servo - but that's secured to the outer cable at the clutch pedal end and can't have made it's way to the other end of the cable; the cable is also secured to the bottom of the subframe about mid way along its length - usualy by a split pin thingy

Have a look in the Haynes manual or try doing a search on here - I remember seeing some fairly detailed explanations somewhere on the search facility

I took a picture last night of the bit I'm trying to explain! Having spoken to a few guys at work, I'm wondering if this bit connects to the lever arm within the gearbox to move the thrust bearing etc.

How do I insert an image into a posting for you all to see?

Thanks for the tip Keith.

I've been off work for a week and haven't been able to get to a PC to log on. The clutch cable is now on the lever arm - now I know what that little pin is for!!!! Presumably to hold it in place i need to adjust the tension in the clutch cable??
