rich_w 0 Posted January 18, 2006 I believe I'm in need of a new drivers side drivehsaft for my 309 gti....I've checked with Peugeot and they want £130.00 inc VAT for an exchange unit, or £240.00 for new. GSF want £49.00+VAT for a exchange driveshaft, which is obviously a lot cheaper than peugeot...I've seen a couple of posts questioning GKN shafts in the middle of last year, which obvious makes me want to pay extra (I would rather not, as money is really tight this month!). Has anyone had any since without problems - was there a bad batch or should I stay well away?
Anthony 1,003 Posted January 18, 2006 I've personally had no problems with 309 GKN 'shafts from GSF
Super Josh 4 Posted January 18, 2006 Me neither and i've put about 25K on them, including a few track days. Josh Interesting how the 309 shafts are 7 quid cheaper than the 205 ones Josh
C_W 3 1 Cars Posted January 18, 2006 (edited) Even more wierd is that Eurocarpars list the LHS for a 309GTi (with ABS) at £13+vat! they don't have any in stock though! Edited January 18, 2006 by C_W
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted January 18, 2006 Same here, never had any problems with GKN driveshafts. Done over 20k in my STDT & 5k in my GTi, including trackdays with them & no complaints at all. Graham.
Simes 248 2 Cars Posted January 19, 2006 One of mine developed a horrid vibration after 11,000 miles - noticable at Motorway speeds. Did my head in on my 1000mile rtn journey across France
C_W 3 1 Cars Posted January 19, 2006 When did the vibration occur? was it like a humming noise? and did changing the shaft cure it?
Simes 248 2 Cars Posted January 19, 2006 (edited) When did the vibration occur? was it like a humming noise? and did changing the shaft cure it? I booted up a slip road, felt like something broke as the whole of the LHS of the car started moving in a manner as if the wheel was working loose. Checked it out and made sure nothing was loose. Continued driving, vibration came on around 70 onwards and was very prominent - frequency didn't change with speed like a wheel out of balance. Fitted a second hand one soon after, all the problems vanished. EDIT: Old topic Edited January 19, 2006 by Simes
rich_w 0 Posted January 19, 2006 Out of interest Simes was that a 205 or 309 shaft? That topic you linked too was the main reason i started this topic - I wasn't too sure if there was a bad batch or they were trying to save money...
