Guest downsy Posted January 17, 2006 Hi would anyone tell me the best way to de-coke the inlet ports on a XU head? DIY styleee I'll probably need to do the exhaust ones too but I haven't seen those yet. I'll get some pics of them up in a bit Thanks Mark

christopher 5 1 Cars Posted January 17, 2006 Hi would anyone tell me the best way to de-coke the inlet ports on a XU head? DIY styleee I'll probably need to do the exhaust ones too but I haven't seen those yet. I'll get some pics of them up in a bit Frankly there is not much point. I cleaned mine whilst the head was off with some industrial cleanser/degreaser and fine wire wool. (but not a good idea with the head on) However once you run the engine again it will get coked up in no time, so its a waste of time. Same applies to those who polish the exhaust ports. Adhesion will occur in no time.
Guest downsy Posted January 18, 2006 I'm going take the head off this weekend and see what sort of condition the head is in and get some more photos. Think the acid thing has got to be done though jon thanks!
PumaRacing 2 Posted January 18, 2006 I wouldn't waste your money. Petrol and a toothbrush will remove most of the carbon but it won't make a scrap of difference to the flow or how it runs. You want to be looking at valve seats, stem seals and valve guide condition if you want to achieve anything constructive with the head.
