ashlee205gti 1 Posted January 17, 2006 Does the car need to be fitted with one for it to pass its MOT, the cars supposed to have one fitted but its been broken off. Leaving just the 'stump' for want of a better word. Ash.
bennett418 1 1 Cars Posted January 17, 2006 no mine passed on my old GTi when i flushed the boot and got rid of it totally.
Dream Weaver 2 Posted January 17, 2006 Not sure with the new MOT rules, testers seem to be s*itting themselves at the moment, especially mine
Jonmurgie 2 Posted January 17, 2006 No it doesn't need one... though if it's GOT one I should imagine it has to be fully working You might have to remove the whole thing then if you've just got a stump as they may get funny with you about it...
jonD6B 0 Posted January 17, 2006 If it's on the car it needs to work if its not it's disregarded. General opinion.
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted January 17, 2006 When I took a car for an mot a few years ago, as I dropped it off I noticed that the rear wiper blade was split & mentioned this when I went inside to the tester. He told me that rear wipers aren't tested as not all cars have them fitted. Looking at the last fail sheet I have there is no specific check for the wipers, must be included in drivers view of the road but only the front windscreen is mentioned. MOT check list Graham. Alastairh 47 Posted January 17, 2006 i would remove the motor on the safe side...
Daxed 7 Posted January 17, 2006 MOT'd a car yesterday with a dangerous horrible looking 'stump' just below the rear window (note to self - dont turn on rear wipe when bikes on rack are mounted). Passed the MOT without a comment.
TEKNOPUG 3 Posted January 17, 2006 It can't be mandatory or all van would fail. I haven't got on fitted to my Pug
timmsy19 3 Posted January 17, 2006 sorry for the hijack but its kinda related. ive got a full working rear wiper but no wash seems to come out will they fail me on this?? also anybody know the problem. it sounds like its working and there seems to be washer fulid in the boot. ive checked for leaks from the jet and taken off the boot panel and checked its all connected. its probably just something simple. just thought i would ask as the rear wiper subject is here
gti-hysteria 0 Posted January 17, 2006 no it will pass they dont test the rear wiper at all, same as reverse lights u dont need em.
pugpete1108 62 1 Cars Posted January 18, 2006 Does the car need to be fitted with one for it to pass its MOT, the cars supposed to have one fitted but its been broken off. Ash. doesn't need the wiper just remove the whole unit and it will pass o.k , plug the holes or something
pugrallye 0 Posted January 18, 2006 (edited) okay, if its fitted, it must work, so best bet is to removed and stick a rubber bung in the hole for now Same for rear washer, only cos of this new system, open to a bit of interpretation by the tester, so just play it safe Edited January 18, 2006 by pugrallye
PumaRacing 2 Posted January 18, 2006 Rear wipers and washers are NOT part of the MOT test. It doesn't matter whether they are fitted and broken or not fitted at all because they simply aren't tested. A broken stump with sharp edges might just conceivably be deemed a dangerous protusion if the MOT tester got out of bed on the wrong side that day but it's unlikely. A bit of tank tape wrapped round it would solve that possibility anyway.
hengti 2 Posted January 18, 2006 I might have missed the point, but why don't you just spend £4 and buy a new wiper arm?!!
Daxed 7 Posted January 18, 2006 As previously said, this passed an MOT this week The car is for sale but dont pester me for it, i'm pretty sure that pugrallye wants it. Can't fault hengti's logic though.
clifton 0 Posted September 29, 2006 the car should pass an mot, the only reason it may fail is because it may have sharp edges which could be apparantly be dangergous, so yeh the best bet is to take the whole rear wiper off and cover the whole, even with tape, i work at a garage and help out with the mot testing sometimes and i passed a car with a broken rear wiper, so should be no problem
Daxed 7 Posted September 30, 2006 clifton, check the dates on the threads. I am the slowest 205 worker on here and even I could have got this car MOT'd by now, with or without a rear wiper arm.
