Can Someone Advise What Type This Gearbox Is

You can't really identify a BE gearbox from the outside other than a BE1 (lift up reverse) and a BE3 (reverse below 5th). You can normally tell between boxes by seeing what RPM your doing at 70mph... do you know what your RPM is at 70?

It's a BE3 box. The standing lever gives it away. On BE3 it's made from one piece (bend), but on the BE1 boxes it's been made of two parts.

Unless it's a BE1 Mi16, because that has the same lever as the BE3. Confusing isn't it?

use this page to tell you what box it is. :) it also has the km/h.

113km/h- 70mph is

3450rpm in a mi16

3300rpm in a 1.9

3700rpm in a 1.6

My mi16 BE1 box has the 2-piece flat lever instead of the bent round one?

If your getting a clutch fitted make sure you know what type of be3 box it is either a ball joint type or a axel type. I have an axle type which has the shaft straight down the middle of the box, and it will have a plastic cover at the front of the gear box. The ball type will be the same as most modern cars as it goes through the hole which mine has covered at the front. You can't get a clutch for mine from pug so you need an aftermarket one. Just a wee tip that I hope will help you.

Thanks

Seems like it is a BE3 and probably the original gearbox from 8v. (not lift up reverse either)

is the lever interchangeable with 2 piece flat one?

because

I was going to make up a lovely set of rose jointed gear linkages until I saw mine was like this and not like my mi16 box. unfortunately i cannot drill through it for bolt.

I have a 1989 1.9 with a BE3 box. I have just bought an MI16 box over the net off a 1991 car. Is it likely to be a straight and simple swap over?
