this happened on the motorway a few weeks ago:

I finally got an arvin front pipe today (£65 from partco), and the fitting kit from peugeot. Firstly can anyone tell me which bolts to use the long or short ones?

Also should I fit the back box first, then fit it all to the car? or fit the front pipe then the back box?

any other tips? :)

Not sure which bolts you'll need to use - I think the Haynes manual explains that you need a certain amount of thread spare after tightening - I'd use which ever bolts allow that measurement

General tips - clean everything up first - all the pipe flanges etc; use all new clamps and hanging rubbers (make sure you've got the right size clamps!). Use exhaust assembly paste to seal things up.

I'd start by hanging the back box on it's own first, then fit the system from the manifold back. Don't tighten any of the clamps - just fit it all losely so you can be sure everything fits snugly, that the system is routed properly and isn't going to knock against anything under the car.

Then whip it all off again and smear sealing paste around the joints, put it all back together, check you've got the same fit as before and tighten up the clamps, making sure nothing shifts around too much.

Then just tighten the clamps again after a couple of days use

I am just after using the shorter ones today that come in the pack from pug. Assemble the whole exhaust system on the ground first and just sweeten up the nuts and bolts lightly. Then place on the mounts on the car and tighten up once all is in position. As hengti says just do a quick spanner check in a few days time when everything settles in.

cheers guys, did it today, took me most of the day, with a few unscheduled trips to halfords.

It feels quite different to how it was before the exhaust broke, alot smoother and quieter. my old pipe did not have the split in it, but I dont think it can be just that making the difference?

possibly my old exhaust had a hole somewhere else. feels quite refined and modern now  need a grp N now :D
