Oil - All Over The Place!

Sorry, the title is a bit more dramatic than what really is up..

 

Basically, I have noticed for some time, when parked up the 205 drops some oil, when getting under the car it has oil dripping and running all the way along the sump and lower engine mouting area. It appears to be coming from the lower back of the engine as opposed to front.

 

Apart from the obvious, (i.e failing sump gasket) is there any where else it could be coming from...?

 

PS is it not the Head Gasket, checked this and anyhow it was done 3k ago.

Blocked breathers maybe? - causing oil to be forced out of the various seals and/or dipstick tube?

 

I've got a similar problem on my 205 - I've pressure washed the engine and will keep checking to find out where its coming from in the next few weeks.

 

If it's all clean to start with you'll soon see fresh leaks.

I had a heap of oil around that area recently, and i found it was due to a leaking rear main and the cam cover hose...

 

Hopefully for you it isn't the rear main, although i found it accumulating in exactly this spot. It was difficult to find its source initially, but removing the lower flywheel cover and getting dripped on was a giveaway...

That is interesting, as I currently get quite a lot of oil in my catch tank when hill climbing - about 1/4 pint which I think is also down to breathing problems...

 

 

...........wonder if the two are related..???

I would have thought that there would be smoke from the exhaust if teh breathers were blocked? That's what happened to mine.
