Fuel Starvation ?

Recommended Posts

Guest PUGMIKE

Hi this is my first post of many probably. But i have just bought a 205 gti its a 1.6 but has a 1.9 engine and rear beam. It still uses the 1.6 box.

In all honestly its a bit of a shed and needs plenty of work. But this i dont mind as i enjoy projects. i took the car for a quick spin round the local industrial estate. i opened here up and it pulled like a train. But a few minutes later it started to judder?? i would put my foot down and it wouldnt moved then it would suddenly kick in and rocket of and it would keep doing this? The car has been standing for a while and i thjink it could be crap in the bottom of the fuel tank? plus will need a new fuel filter probably. does this sound like the cure?

also the guy i bought it off reckons it had a head gasket problem. He said it was using water a fair bit and to be fair it was blowing steam but doesnt seem to any more?? im thinking possibly just water in the exhasut from standing for a while and theres a leak some where?

LOL and thats not where it ends i have also started hearing a knocking noise coming from the engine and its starting to get quite loud when accelerate.

But concidring i got the car for 150 quid i wasn't exspecting a minter lol.

anyone got any ideas on the problems and any soloutions. im thinking a rebuild of the engine may be the option. but thats going to cost top doller :P HELP!

Try carrying out a compression test on the engine cylinders, this will give you a better idea of what condition the head gasket is in, rather than assuming it jut because it been sitting there.

Check the dip stick for any metal filings on the end? this could indicate the engine is on its way out.

What reading are you getting with the oil pressure gauge?

Gauge is about half way or slightly more on start up and goes up slightly more when warm (idle) when accelerated it moves up and down as it should do?
