madspikes 41 1 Cars Posted January 12, 2006 I'm thinking about buying an engine out of a mi16 zantia, is this likey to be a ally or iron block? I think I remember reading that citroen blocks were all ally. I'm right on this? This is going be better than a gti6 engine? I've searched around, and yes i know the gti6 is heaver but does it make a better road / odd track day engine?
TEKNOPUG 3 Posted January 12, 2006 I would have thought that the Xantia would also be iron block? The change over was due to age I thought (they stopped producing the alloy ones at a certain date) I assume tha the Pug/Cit engines where all made at the same place? Anyway, the Gti-6 is about 20kgs heavier than the alloy Mi16. Dunno about the iron one. It also has 10-15bhp more than the Iron block Mi16. To be honest though, unless you are racing competively, I'd doubt that you notice the difference in weight between any of them. Make you decidsion based on cost (rebuilds etc) and availabilty. Hi, I have the Citroen ZX 2.0 16v engine, which is iron.... also known as the S16 or 2.0 Mi16. It is heavier.... but IMO is just as good. Especially as they are more likely to be of lower mileage. I believe, if the Xantia engine is a 2.0, it will be the iron block.... it has seperate coil packs for each cylinder?
DrSeuss 0 Posted January 12, 2006 Xantia's were only fitted with 2ltr mi's should have a plastic inlet manifold and two dome shaped diaphragms. I've got one in my 205, alot easier to find then 1.9mi's these days and generally not as in need of a rebuild.
feb 47 Posted January 12, 2006 (edited) My dad has a Xantia 2.0 16v , as said it is the iron block with individual coil packs. Same engine as the S16 with variable inlet manifold, you can feel the kick in at around 3.5-4k rpm. They are good engines, haven't driven a Mi so not sure how they compare. Has now done 170k faultless kilometres. Edited January 12, 2006 by feb
jackherer 543 Posted January 12, 2006 most 2.0 16v Xantias are only 138bhp, only a few were 155bhp so check carefully!
DrSeuss 0 Posted January 12, 2006 easiest way to check is the oil filler, on the 138hp variants its on the rocker cover. S16's its separate from the head, in a similar position to the 205.
madspikes 41 1 Cars Posted January 12, 2006 Its two different engines i'm looking at.... One is from a GTi6, the other is currently in a zantia and it's the MI16 type engine. Not sure if its the orignal engine or not. Basically I want a 205 with a bit more poke that i'm going to drive everyday and about twice a year give it a beating on a trackday! I've read what people have said, my gut feeling is that the GTi6 block is going to be better because its a newer desgin, and its gotta be smother that the 8v! KRISKARRERA 2 1 Cars Posted January 12, 2006 Make sure the Xantia is the VSX model, that's the one with the Mi16/S16 engine. (Should also have put this in the 406 but I guess the Xantia isn't quite the sister car to the 406, it's more end of 405 beginning of 406 overlap. Doesn't even look more modern than a 405 really either. Ok I'll be quiet now.)
DrSeuss 0 Posted January 12, 2006 Only issue with the gti6 is their love of spitting rods and snapping cambelts with gay abandon. The head is designed for significantly less oil surge and the management is alot newer.
