Mastercyclinder 307 Brakes.

alright people i have just upgraded to 307 brakes on my mi16 and although they are a lot better i dont like the pedal travel.. ive searched and can see i need a 406 m/c but ive read there are different ones??

 

what one do i need? and does it have to be from a 406?

 

also i seem to have just 3 lines coming from my current m/c so what will i do when i get the 406 one? just block one of somehow? if so how?

the 405 m/c is a better option but i can't remember the part number for it on brakepart and i believe you can just block on of the holes off :ph34r:

you don't want the 306 gti-6 / 406 23.8mm m/c as it will be an overkill for 307 brakes.

 

instead, you want a 306 xsi 22.2mm m/c which will be perfect.

 

if the car doesn't have abs, it will have 4 ports (which is what you need).

 

also, you want it off/for a pre-1998 model, so it's a straight fit onto your brake servo.

I've got a four hole 405 22.2mm mc for my car.

 

IIRC it was for a 405 Mi16x4 BMC4678 from Brakeparts, I bought it unused from NickR.

but..

what other 405's will have the master cyclinder i need as i dont think im going to find an mi16 down breakers... also what other 306s as there arent many xsi's near me either...

 

i know your all going to say buy a new one but im getting this for free..

Any late 405 with ABS will have a two hole 22.2mm mc (non ABS are 20.6mm, same as 205) or a 306 S16 if you want to get one from a scrapyard but my local yard charges £25-30 for a second hand one so a new one isn't much more & definatelty worth it imo.

well if the 405 one fits 205 servo and fluid reservoir fine, then i guess that's the best option :).

 

but i'd definitely get the seals changed!

I've got a set of 307 brakes sitting in the garage that I need to get round to fitting.

 

How much different is the travel from the standard set up?

 

Bleeding brakes is my all time worst job, so if I need a new mc I'd like to get it on at the same time.

A bit of a meaningless post, but I've just been looking on Brakeparts for the above cylinder, and somebody on there must have a good sense of humour.

 

They list a 23.8mm one for a 405, and from it's description, I reckon it must be for the T16:

 

BMC4787 : 23.8 : Master Cylinder : Non UK Turbo Flying Machine :(

Must be an enthusiast that works there?did you also notice on the one above it says somthing about blanking off two outlets,he knows what we are up to :)
