mbayley77 0 Posted January 10, 2006 Ok so i just noticed that after 3 days of trying to get my car going after new gaskets on the carbs one of the plug leads is broken. But not just one of the leads - the longest one which in the pack of leads i just got doesnt bloody reach so i guess packs of standard mi16 plug leads dont actually reach to cylinder number one!!! I am running the 1.9 mi 16 with 8v dizzy so its about 2 inches short. What leads can i get that will be long enough? Dont want to be spending a fortune in leads either so hopefully just some normal off the shelf jobby cheers
pug309twin40s 1 Posted January 10, 2006 (edited) with the mi16 engine and 8v dizzy you wont be able to get new ht leads sets in most normal stores. and normal mi16 ht lead sets wont fit. get yourself some magnecor leads. I know they about £60 brand new but their worth it. Fit properly and last for yrs. Cheaper sets just dont fit correctly and break easily. p.s cyl 1 is the the cyl near the dizzy!! easypug 0 Posted January 10, 2006 They sell the loonger ones at pugspares, i'm sure some one knows of a cheaper place to get them from however. Longer HT leads

I knew the number one would be the other end if i put it Thanks though. I just loath spending so much on leads. Surely there must be a standard set of leads which must be longer. Even something off like a bmw with straight 6 or something??? Surely most leads are the same bar the bit that goes down the bore of the cylinder but thats not impossible to swap by replacing the rubber bits.
pug309twin40s 1 Posted January 10, 2006 trouble is you need the mi16 ones with the big long bit on like the standard leads that sit in the cyl head. normal leads with the small connection on the end you wont be able to get it plugged onto the spark plug where its sat so far down the cyl head. hope that makes sense. Is this not possible to swap by pulling the old rubber moulding off an old lead and putting it on whatever lead i buy? They are only rubber mouldings at the end of the day. the clips must be the same?
pug309twin40s 1 Posted January 10, 2006 nope. the mi16 big long bit is all moulded around the main lead bit, so wont come apart. plus if you start pulling the rubber outside of the leads the leads usually ends up breaking of the metal clip bit that clip to the spark plug and then your knackered. DrSeuss 0 Posted January 10, 2006 If you get down to your local motorfactors with a lead for reference and measurements, you should be able to find a matching set. Corsa 16v leads are used when people change to coil packs, so i reckon at least the boots will be right. Either that or some places will make them up for you.
