205 Gti6 Running Probs

Recommended Posts

Have problem with running on my 205,Has Gti 6 engine along with its marelli Inj and harness,Starts fine, runs fine when having pulled away from immediate start up,get a few hundred yards down the road and it starts to lurch,or can even die completely on part throttle, upto about half throttle even.

If I a),floor it,it goes off like a scalded cat with no worries,or :),dont move the throttle at all it dies for a bit and then once having slowed down just kicks back into life.

Once it warms up the problem all but dissapears unless I get stuck in slowish traffic 30-40mph which is a real pain and the engine is doing 3K or less,it starts lurching again.

Have checked all connections again and agian, tried changing the coolant temp sensor but to no avail??,have wired up the management k light on dash and this allways goes out the minute you start the car.

Any ideas anyone??,any Input will be gratefully received.

Thanks

Tristan

Hi Tristan,

Mine was suffering from very similar problems to yours, it was caused by a series of problems and all of them were sorted by Pugrallye from off here.

Oil residue and dirt in the throttle body

Replacement MAP sensor

New fuel filter

My cab had the exact same problem as that from startup. Drive about 1/8th of a mile down the road and it would splutter and die back to an idles, rev it once its on idle and it would be fine. This would only happen once then it would be perfect. It did this puzzling stunt 3 or 4 times and now hasnt done it since.... Very strange.

Maybe totally irrelavant but I used to have a GTi6 and when mine was doing the stalling thing at idle when you have to blip the power to stop it dying, I changed the stepper motor and it was like owning a new car. Sorted it right out.

I have had the same thing too!

Hasn't done it for a while, as you have described, drive for about 2mins and you get a missfire and bogs down. But mine also used to do it round corners too, which made me think it was a loose baffle in the fuel tank or a dodgy connection to the fuel pump. I did a bit of research on the 306gti6 forum and a popular remedy was the Lambda sensor. I have tried to get mine off but it is cross threaded so will have to be cut out, I did however get it to half turn and since then the problem has greatly reduced! So I might be on the right track......

Whizzer, I see in your signature you say you are getting a custom exhaust, I would reccomend you get or keep the standard '6' manifold, I have a 'custom' manifold and I am down on torque (137lb/ft).
