Challenge Spec Bilstein Dampers

Recommended Posts

Sam

Has anyone used these?

They are basically fixed platform versions of the Peugeot Sport Bilstein Coilovers (ie. they still have the inverted dampers). I'm thinking about getting a set for mine as they are certainly more suited to the road than the bilsteins.

£140 each from Peter Lloyd Ralling..

Well I'll report back when I get them, Sandy has them on his and seems to think they are pretty good.

Not really heard them being mentioned on here before... have you tried over on the Challenge forum? Though I guess they might be a little bias :)

From what Sam's shown me, they're 205 strut bodies with bilstein inserts and a fixed spring pan. So more then likely good quality. Not massively cheap though!

Yep they are just a more suitable alternative for road cars. They use the same inserts with short tops for standard mounts....

Are the inserts exactly the same? If they are the only difference i can see these having over the Coilover Bilsteins is the spring poundage, which is changeable anyhow. So i guess they are pretty good value for money.

I'm going for 106 Eibach springs like sandy ran on his, seemed to give a nice ride height and decent ride.

I asked peter lloyd racing if they used the same inserts and they confirmed they did, they certianly look as if they do.

Mine should arrive wednesday anyway.

Yup sandy's having them I think with my old front dampers/springs. If I did use them I'd need some kind of mad top spring pans.

Out of interest are they the same ones as Skip Brown Cars sell as part of their suspension 1 upgrade package?

I don't think they are no. SBC ones are just revalved sprintlines IIRC.

They look impressive. Let us know what they are like on the car.

Will do when I find the time to fit them (along with the gearbox/bottom end, driveshafts, wishbones etc etc)

Excellent, tight, controlled, but not harsh or binding like the GroupA ones.

My Group A are fine - just use the gravel inserts and spring rates. This is the

suspension used by most of the road rally cars, so it cann't be to bad!

I did change to tarmac settings for a stage rally and driving to the MOT station

loosened my teeth :)

They are just the normal Sprintline front Dampers just called the challenge ones I suspect after talking to Billy UK, so most places sell them

Do the sprintlines have the removable inserts that are the same as the GroupA/N coilovers then? Because these do, AFAIK the sprintlines use different damping rates. I can post a part number if needed?

Strange, they are a fair bit stiffer IMO.

Resurrecting an old thread

Sam, have you managed to get these on your car yet?

My front Sprintline shocks are feeling like they need replacing soon, hopefully before FCS and I like the sound of these Challenge spec ones.

Can someone confirm that they are different to the Sprints, or if you want Sam I can check your part numbers for these shocks against mine? The Sprints are rebuildable so I'd imagine you could Bilstein to fit different spec inserts if req'd.

I'm trying to get my car back to its former glory handling-wise, as its started to go soggy at the front more than likely due to a tired shock.
