credowan 15 1 Cars Posted January 5, 2006 Hi, I have done a search but sorry if i have mist the information i require, when sourcing another gearbox for the 306s16 if i cant find the s16 unit will any other 306 units fit, xsi, diesel etc... and which suit the engine the best this is going to be fitted back into the 306 just wondering if they differ on gearing rods etc and ratios Any views would be appreciated Thanks Gary
Miles 331 1 Cars Posted January 5, 2006 Most Mi16 box's are fine internally, You just need to swap one linkage and the clutch arm,
Richie-Van-GTi 71 2 Cars Posted January 6, 2006 1.8 or 2.0 xsi 16v or 8v boxes fit as well as the gti6 box. Apart fromt the 6 they should all use same linkages although some will be push type clutch instead of the pull type like the s16 box. If you get a push type box you just need to swap the cable over and use an MI16 clutch asssembly or swap the arms in the box and attach the extra bracket off the s16 box to use the pull type clutch. Personally I'd go for the mi16 clutch as its loads easier to change a push clutch than a pull.
