Pug_sport 0 Posted January 3, 2006 I've been told that if I put a 1.6 box onto my 1.9 I have to have an LSD, is this correct or can I fit it straight on? I know that it will fit but would it be drivable? Also what is the difference made by changing the final drive? Is it noticable?

I guess it depends on how much power you have and whether the car is used on the road or the track. Theres a good gearbox calculator on the quaife site you can download. You need to enter your ratios, tyre circumference and change up point. Generally speaking it's better to use the 1.9 ratios with the 1.6 final drive as the 1.9 box has a longer first gear. I think you can change the diff without having to remove the box although I may be wrong here?
Jonmurgie 2 Posted January 3, 2006 Check out this page for links to the Excel sheets with the gear ratios etc. so you can play with then to your hearts content: http://www.mdracing.co.uk/gearbox.asp You don't NEED to have an LSD and at ~£500 it's one of the single most expensive mods to a car. As already said, if you use your car for road only then there is little point in an LSD... but if you do venture on the track and have a spare £500+ then go for it
