The 106 doesnt have a subframe, the 205 does. Compare the thickness of metal in the subframe with that in the strutbrace...if the subframe is goign to bend the the brace will go too!

Top strut braces help turnin a bit thou

CHRIST.... the lower strut brace was one of the cheapest and best mods I've ever done on mine... totally transformed the turn in and made everything at the front end feel nice and tight!! Can't believe those of you saying it's a 'show' item.... fools!!

So go out, spend the £20-£30 on one and don't look back!!

And to answer the original question, yes it fits with an Mi engine

Please point me in the direction of this 'stuff' you've read as I'd be interested to see how their 'words' differ from my 'experience'

Have you TRIED one?

Good thread guys.

Could you tell me if a 309 and 205 are the same when it comes to fitting a brace. For example will a 205 Mi brace fit a 309 Mi and visa versa?

Agree with Jonmurgie, cheap mod for hard track action.

Stops defelction at the front of the subframe, keeps wishbones 'in-line'.

Definately worthwhile if you are track dayer or racer.!!!

try it out, it's peanuts on the mondey side, if you dont like it, ebay it on.

there's no substitute for experience

There is only 1 on the market and that's the OMP one... I'm running a non-finned sump with the engine at the standard angle...

The 205 and 209 have the same front subframes so yes the 205 one will fit... there aren't any '205 Mi' or '309 Mi' braces, just the 205/309 GTi brace

I don't think any of the 205 challenge peeps use one. I'll try and find out. Where's STE when you need him  Also Miles might know

Yeah I know what you mean, but was under the same impression as Kenan that with an Mi engine it caused the brace not to fit.

Any reason why OMP use different part (205 / 309) numbers for the same braces?

You mean that the front subframe flexes under cornering?

Have you seen how solid they are?

placebo effect...

That's a bit harsh mate, have you acutally TRIED one yourself?

If not then with all due respect 'shup up'

If so then I wonder why you didn't find it made any difference?

You are under some illusion that the front subframe is solid , ha

Yes it does flex under cornering, especially on a race car (notice in my original blurb i said track or race)

Try it with 225 slicks and 425 lbs springs , believe me it flexes.

Now , be a good boy and speak from experience rather than hearsay. :(

And for the 'hardcore' , the rear brace bar on the subframe can also distort, I have increase the size of this on my subframe also. (cut and welded larger tubing in).

I've had one lying around in the garage for a while now, never fitted it so far as just not got round to. I might fit it soon and see what difference it makes for me. Looking at the standard subframe it doesn't *look* like it will do that much since the "legs" on the subframe where it bolts to are only a couple of inches forward the main cross brace of the subframe.

Anybody with a lower brace want to visit a local "test track" with a stop watch? then go back again without the brace fitted?
