1.9mi16 Head

Hi i'm fitting a 2ltr mi with a 1.9 crank and want to fit my 1.9 head on to the block.what head bolt do i use in the top left because it has a different depth compared to the rest?

Easypug the 2ltr's use a different tread and are shorter than the 1.9's the 2ltr's also don't have the spacer's like the 1.9's

Sorry i meant use the normal spacer as on the 8v/16v. Maxi has a 1.9 head on a 2.0 bottom end so will know the answer to this. :)

DrSeuss i want to use the 1.9 head because it has a lot of work done to it and if i used the 2ltr head i'd have to change the exhaust manifold and down pipe and there is a hole in the end of the head for a oil return that i'd have to block.Plus i'd have to drill and tap a hole in the end for the dizzy

I think my mate is doing this afaik the s16 has no spacer but you can use a headbolt from an xu10j2 engine (bought singly from pug)

 

As it is 10mm longer then the s16 bolts

The S16 headbolts all have spacers!!!!!!

 

When my engine was put together matt used a diesel headbolt machined to fit. I wasnt there when it was done so I dont know the exact crack with it, you will have to ask him.

 

 

Just for reference the S16 headbolt spacers are more like washers, about 3-4mm thick.

Correct. I used the thick Mi16 spacers with machined 1.9TD diesel headbolts.

when i did daz's engine with 1.9 mi16 head onto s16 bottom end we used 9 normal 2lt bolts and 1 1.9mi16 bolt for above the water pump.

 

we tried the TD bolts and they weren't long enough.

How can you use the 1.9 Mi16 bolt abowe the pump, it's got M11 threads, and iron blocks are M12...

I no that there is a differance in the tread's like B1ack_mi16 said any one got any clue's as to why the diesel bolt need's to be machined and what need's to be done i can get any machining done by my old man :)

I have the same diesel bolts that Hilgie has..

And the problem is that the bolt-head is 1mm too wide in diameter to be able to enter the Mi16 head.

So I just put them in a lathe at university, and reduced them 1.5mm diameter, they now enter fine...

 

Then just use the standard Mi16 spacers on all the bolts except the one above the waterpump-housing where you just use a standard washer, if not that bolt won't get deep enough into the block.

hmm maybe it was an 8v 1 then. but it had the same thread pattern as the 2lt 16v bolts but was same length as the 1.9 mi16.

yeah but when you did that head didnt you have probs getting it torqued down properly and a good compression.

no that was on his old bottom end. and it was torqued down properly but just crap compression on 2 cyls which is why he got another s16 bottom end of miles and we fitted that with the same cyl head and its got good compression now.

The odd headbolt was sorted by machining a XUD head bolt down and making a washer to fit ( it was all we had at 5:30 on a saturday night!)

I've found out another way to do it today i was talking to a bloke i no who is a engineer and a weekend single seater racer said that he can machine the headbolt area down on the higher one in the corner so i can just use the 2ltr headbolt's any one else think this will work i can't see any problem's?
