jim205GTI 3 Posted December 31, 2005 I found out that the mr muscle oven cleaner ( the stuff you leave on for like 30mins to 2 hours) is amazing for getting rid of the stubborn crap on the car ie brake dust ............... going to see how well it cleans up the gearbox and engine i got lying around

Pugnut 9 1 Cars Posted December 31, 2005 it doesnt work so well on greasy surfaces , but on burnt carbon deposits like valves, cylinder head internals etc it works great , just dont leave it on too long as it starts discolouring/eating alloy .
jim205GTI 3 Posted December 31, 2005 i just did it for a minimal amount of time then washed it off straight away

jim21070 2 Posted January 8, 2006 Another good cleaner is the foaming cleaner the PC fraternity use to tart up computers and monitors. Some are not so good but an excellent one is Electrolube CTC or "Carterclene". This one is the bees knees for cleaning alloy whells of brake dust and generally degreasing. I once used it to clean a very manky cooker hood and it came up like new and we all know how hard it is to shift old chip fat. The active ingreditent, i believe, is ammonia.
