hi, ive started to assemble my own roll cage, but not fitted as of yet.

mine comprises of heavy duty aluminium scaffold tubing, obviously its not fia approved, but it will be of a substancial strength. shouldnt weight to much either!

ive got a rear hoop, a x brace in the hoop then two downrights from the sides and top of the hoop to the rear of the car with a diagonal between them. Then two bars over the top to windscreen and down onto the floor with a top bar and diagonal under the roof and two door bars.

it was easy to make it, got a hydraulic pipe bender ya see, but aluminium tubing has a tendancy to fold weird (go oval), so i made wooden plugs (like corks) and filled the pipe with sand and plugged it, helps keep its rounded shape.

hope this is of some help!

Think I paid approx 200£ for the tubing, plates and quite a few screw-joints.

The main hoop and a-pillar tubes were pre-bent though.

Guess it's cheaper over at yours, things tend to be expensive over here.

I cant remember who posted this before, but its a fantastic design, something i've started to replicate a little.

nice image keith, that does indeed look solid, there is no way that will deflect. very good design actually, think ill go for something similar to that :)

£200 seems alot cheaper than buying a prebuilt cage, plus it looks alot more rigid.

what section r u using for the frame? steel??

That cage is now mine (i bought it off phatgti) Im busy fitting it at the moment lots of cutting and welding needed. But should be strong when its done. Its only the main hoop and legs thats bent to size the rest of the cage is lengths of tube you have to cut and shape yourself.
