hoodygoodwood 70 3 Cars Posted March 14, 2015 205/309 GTI 'fat' starter motor = 10lb 4oz , Peugeot OE 'slimline' starter = 6lb 4oz . Obviously there will be some variation depending on brand etc of starter but a 4lb saving has got to be good news . 4 short headed GTI wheelbolts = 15 oz 4 long headed GTI wheelbolts = 1lb 3 oz A 16 oz saving for a full set . jackherer 543 Posted March 14, 2015 205/309 GTI 'fat' starter motor = 4.65 KG , Peugeot OE 'slimline' starter = 2.84 KG . Obviously there will be some variation depending on brand etc of starter but a 1.81 KG saving has got to be good news . 4 short headed GTI wheelbolts = 0.43 KG 4 long headed GTI wheelbolts = 0.54 KG A 0.45 KG saving for a full set . I really think we should stick to metric units in this thread!

wicked 103 3 Cars Posted June 2, 2017 Doesnt sound right to me, unless its an xu9j4 The same doc for the XU9J4 says 132kg for the XU9j4 including, starter, alternator and fly..
Anthony 1,003 Posted June 2, 2017 After a bit of searching, I found the 1.9 Mi16 (XU9J4) version of that series of technical documents. http://ddata.over-blog.com/4/23/45/11/XU9J4.pdf Without flywheel = 112.6kg With flywheel (and clutch?) = 121.6kg With starter and alternator = 132.7kg Looks like comparing like for like, the 16v engine is around 13kg heavier than the 8v (100, 108, 119kg). I'm struggling to find similar documents for later XU engines, but it's probably reasonable to assume that the equivalent weights (including flywheel/alternator/starter) are those I listed back on page 9. There's still something a little odd with the XU10 figures though.
welshpug 1,657 Posted June 2, 2017 i know from comparing the XU7 block directly against the bare XU10 block that there's 18 kilos in it as well, but is that 112 kilos including manifolds? it sounds like it given I've weighed a bare 8v at 78 kilos. I recently weighed an almost bare TU5J4, it came in at a hefty 100 kilos.
