TVH 0 Posted November 21, 2005 I think I have cat-equipped 405 Mi16 wiring loom in my hands and I _NEED_ to get it working with the 8v gti (XU9JAZ) engine and ecu. AFAIK there's not much differences in the 405 8v and 16v looms, 16v has IAC that needs to be rewired for the bi-metal valve and the knock sensor connector can be unconnected. Anyone knows if it works or not? How does one tell which loom is it afterall? I got mine from scrappy yard and the scrappy owner told me it is a 8v loom but according to the wire codes, it's 16v. Another question, there's four relay sockets on the loom, what are the relays exactly? I have two relays missing and I'd like to know if I should use diode protected relays or just normal switching relays?
IvarS 0 Posted November 21, 2005 The 8V-engine will run on the Mi16-harness if the correct ECU is fitted. All you have to do is feed the idle solenoid switched 12V+. Just leave the AIC- and knock sensor unconnected until you fit the 16 Valve

I'm going to fit Motronic management to the 405 and then sell it...next car will be a 205 GTI with lots of mods

TVH 0 Posted December 23, 2005 I have the wiring diagrams for each if you need them. Thanks for the offer, do you have any other diagrams than the Haynes ones? I cannot find some wire codes from the Haynes diagrams. For example, I'd need to locate evap canister valve connector but there's no connectors matching the Haynes wire codes. At least the car runs with the loom, except it's in limp-home mode because the evap canister is not connected.
