205 Gti Chassis / Shell

Recommended Posts

Hello

Anybody know if the Gti chassis / shell is different to the other 2 door 205 models in anyway (XS for example)? Obviously engine, wheels, suspension, etc are different, but i dont know about the chassis & subframe itself.

Its time to reshell the race car and i'm just thinking whether i may be able to get a non Gti 2-door 205 in better condition than a Gti. At the end of the day I'm going to junk absolutley everything - internals, cycle parts and engine, so all i need is a body with panels and a subframe.

let me know :huh:

The rear arches are smaller on non-GTIs, causing rubbing, and I don't think the front arches are flared as much.

The 3-door Turbo Diesel shell is the only one compatible with the GTI though afaik.

Arches can be cut out to gti spec basically aside from cosmetic differences (and a small difference in subframe mounting) the later TU based 205 shells should be compatible though a late diesel with gti suspension set up might prove more useful. Have you considered the 309 for greater track and stability?

309? wash your mouth out... :huh:

nah, i'd stick with the 205.

but, ok - front arches are just the wings (bolt on's); any ideas if the subframes are swappable (same two bolts to hold the whole thing together)? then it would just be the rear arches i guess...

Sub-frames ARE swap-able, however there appear to be 2 diff. fittings for the sub-frame to the chassis legs. On some cars you need spacers on other not.

To the best of my knowledge, the only 205 TD with a GTi style shell is the STDT - the others (DTurbo etc) all use a non-GTi shell like the XS. Only other model that springs to mind is the Gentry which again uses a GTi-style shell.

Are there any differences with the GTI type shell with regard to strength, extra braceing etc etc ?

ive put all the gti running gear on my xs and the only difference is the rear arches as there is not as much room compared to the gti rear arche.

i swaped the front subframe and rear axle of a 1.9gti with no probs-alot of work though!

Paul.
