Radster 0 Posted July 30, 2005 (edited) Well my problem is the gearchange, when cold, IE just started up the gear change is fine, smooth, slots home no issue. However once the tempreture gets up the gears become harder to engage, its fine whilst on the move but not when you come to a stop, reverse causes probs too. I was wondering whether this was likely to be oil issues or something more sinister? It almost feels like the clutch doesnt fully disengage, but the car doesnt move or pull so I can only assume that its not that, or maybe the syncros are going, but why would they be fine when cold and not warm?? nick 3 Posted July 30, 2005 I'd change the oil for starters just to discount it. It sounds like the oil is breaking down when it gets warm. Nick
Alastairh 47 Posted July 30, 2005 Yep sounds like new gear box oil is needed. Its a high possibility and also not too expensive As to what type of oil you use im not 100% sure. Around 75-80 i think.
jackherer 543 Posted July 30, 2005 my 205 had this fault when I bought it, the person selling it thought it needed a new gearbox, but in my case it was heat from the exhaust drying out the grease on the gear pivot arm on the subframe so I'd check the linkages first before you do anything else. Radster 0 Posted August 4, 2005 Right an update on this particular problem, it seems to be getting worse, reverse is impossible to get in without grinding it once the car has been running for a while and the gears get very notchy noticably the lower ones, however its fine with the engine switched off, the bite is low, like foot in the floor, lift up a little and it bites, not even 1mm, checked the adjustment on the arm and its as tight as it will go, so im assuming that my clutch cable isnt pulling the clutch back far enough. Is this a tricky job or reasonably striaght forward, also would it be best getting a replacement cable from peugeot or would a motorfactors one be sufficient. sorrentoaddict 1 Posted March 19, 2006 cheers all, just came up across this one - my 205's gearchange has the same problems (as quoted above) since yesterday - however it seems that the gearchange is stiff also when engine is off (but only after hard driving). It seems that the exhaust heat drying up the grease in the pivot is to blame - I am eager to get it on the lift tomorrow to see what's going on down there. cheers Alex
