Jenvey Throttle Bodies On The Mi16

Yes, I slung the bonnet back on and it closes just right, may raise it up a little though to take into account any movement in the engine etc.

To be honest i thought it wouldn't fit and that I'd have to cut a chunk out of the bonnet but pleased it does fit

And here's a sneak preview of the airbox...

progress8.jpg

Heres something I have never understood. The induction side of the mi engine is on the front. That to me says, if you were to fit TB's, its perfect for a sucking air straight in! Drop the rad down, and you have air reasonably unrestricted, staight into the inlet tract and into the engine. Loads of power... lovely! So why ruin the whole effect and beauty of it by slapping a dirty great ice cream tub on the front restricting the air low through say 100mm neck to one side... seems a bit odd to me??

Oh, the other reason I'm going with an airbox is I'm planning on trying out an 8 injector setup...

And don't worry, as I have easy access to a rolling road I will be trying it with/without airbox and on different length trumpets to see the effects

But the noise is absolutely awesome.... why mask it?? If we were bothered about noise and refinements we wouldnt be driving 205's  The TB's wouldnt break track day noise restrictions, the exhaust would break that way before!

Sean, what filter are you using on your TB's out of interest??

it has been the case that induction noise has become an issue over the last few years on strick nosise limit tracks. So to get around them they use these covers. I think they might also help pulse tuning, i dont know ifits specifically pulse tuning but something in that area.

I think i'm going for the common pipercross px600 things, but i'm waititng until its all setup then i can measure the clearances etc. I understand you need good clearence internally also between end of trumpets and filter.

I'm defo going for front entry induction and using the same technique as DES in terms of lowering rad and making an ali sheet to reduce airflow disturbance under the TBs etc

Using the airbox will provide an equal pressurse area thats constant compared to just whacking a filter on....

steige: with 75mm trumpets and ITG filter (125mm) my filter was hitting the top of the bonnet, with the auto bonnet it will clear though as it has different support beams on the bonnet (which is what the filter is hitting off of at the moment).

Im hopefully getting one of the shorter radiators and using a plastic sheet to keep the hot airflow to below the TB's and the fresh cool air from through the grill to the tb's.

Am also please to report there is plenty of room infront of the airbox and the radiator so no need to move that any more than I had for the Mi install :)

I did see this airbox setup at Pugfest... though it was rather nice, though it's still got a filter stick on the side. Although it's only a 4 injector setup you can see the priciple of having the injectors infront of the trumpets here :P

Since your doing back to back tests it'll be interesting to see how it all works out. From what i've read you need pretty serious RPM to take advantage of an 8 injector set up. With a big hit to low rpm driveability (if you only use the outer ones).

Are you going fully sequential?

The TB's wouldnt break track day noise restrictions, the exhaust would break that way before!

They won't (probably) on static tests but on driveby tests like they have at Goodwood (and probably most tracks) then full chat would be pretty risky in terms of Db, mine certainly is ten times louder than my exhaust.

On the other hand why would you want to cover up this kind of noise :)

Anyway I thought standard inlet ruled Adam :P Course it does.... :P

Those cars at Pugfest pictured above are the X Sport Racing cars, ask Miles :) still the best prepared 205's I've seen in the metal by a long long way!

I have the 90mm trumpets with a pipercross px600 filter. I'm sure the filter is 150mm with an internal size of 125mm. I do have an auto bonnet fitted but am just a little worried that its going to catch. Heres a pic of mine out of the car. Its a bit out of focus though.

Have you finalised the spec for the Mi engine thats going to QEP?

220bhp is what i'm looking for and i still aint finalised my spec yet, so i'm interested in how your going about it?

Are you using solid lifters?

Sam I think the sound of your car made me expel some juices..........:( Sounds friggin awesome mate :D At the next Sth Meet I want a passenger ride!!! Oh, and bring that alloy with you!

Drive by noise is a problem with TBs on panel filter and trumpets as I have experienced it whilst driving the AB Motorsport 205 at Donington. I got black flagged and warned about the noise!! It just meant that I had to ease off on the pit straight where they take readings :)

Nice progress Jon - cant wait for a passenger ride at Silverstone on 10th Feb B)

Yeah drilling the backplates are a pain... looking good so far.

forgot to mention, you can use a circular saw that you use for wood to cut them a bit rounder to match the throttle body inlet ports if you cna get hold of a similiar sized one (the wood ones managed to cut through a base plate i had).

Where abouts did you get your airbox from and howmuch was it? I've seen a few but they seem rather expensive for what you get.

steige: i think you should be ok with an auto bonnet, however the slam panel will cause trouble as it did with mine, had to take off 1-2cm at the drivers side as can be seen:

Jon, it might just be firefox but I can't seem to open the pics, a popup window appears and then shrinks really small with only a link saying "Click to Close". Just thought I'd let you know, its probably just firefox.

Cheers Sam, it's not Firefox and it's only 3 of the pics (the close up inlet manifold) so I'll sort those out tomorrow when I'm back in the office

Have a tiny little bit more metal to remove on one of the cutouts, but I'll do that when I remove a little metal from the engine mount...

Spec of the 220bhp engine isn't finalised and won't be revealed until it's all in and setup on the dyno, so don't hold your breath :D
