niklas 1 Posted March 15, 2006 (edited) main bearing cap nuts and bolts 49nm I just cannot believe it. Yes I know what Haynes says, and I've raid http://forum.205gtidrivers.com/index.php?s...hl=mains+torque too. But it's just not very tight is it??? Have people successfully put their engines together with just using 50 Nm on the mains???? I want proof before I believe it Edited March 15, 2006 by niklas
Bonzai 2 Posted March 15, 2006 i have got a glass's tech service data book from 1988 and the torque settings listed in there are as follows: cylinder head bolts - 60nm - 44 lb ft (loosen, then 20nm/15lb ft +300degrees big end bearing bolts - 50nm - 37lb ft main bearing bolts - 50nm - 37lb ft flywheel bolts - 50nm - 37lb ft clutch to flywheel bolts - 25nm - 18lb ft
pug_ham 245 3 Cars Posted March 16, 2006 Have people successfully put their engines together with just using 50 Nm on the mains????I want proof before I believe it I used those figures on the engine currently in my car & so far I've had no problems revving up to 7k. (I actually used the Autodata sheet torques as they are more progressive on the headbolts) Autodata tightening torques for a 1990 GTi; Big end bearings; Tighten in the following stages: 1) 40Nm 2) Slacken off 3) 20Nm + 70' Main bearings; Horizontal bolts = 25Nm Verticla bolts = 54Nm.
