Mi16 Alloys

Was thinking about how nice they look on the 205 the 15" ones that look like t16 alloys. And was wondering how big a difference in offset there is. Would these be ok to fit to a 1.6gti, if they are has anyone got a set going cheap from an mi they've broken?

Fronts would be ok but the rears need spacers I think.

 

My 14" mi16 alloys looked horrid and needed about 5 mil spacers.

The speedlines or smrs are ET19. The Mi16 alloys are ET29. So to retain the old offset you'll need 10 mm spacers.

Yeah? Are they the multi-spoke wheels found on the 206 and 406?

Yes, but only the 206 ones have an ET28; the 406 ones are about ET19.

I actually find the 15" Mi16 wheels good looking.

I haved 4 of theese lying around as I changed them for 17" on the 405. :)

On the 15" it's just a shame the spokes don't go flat to the rim edge; it makes them look slightly smaller.

I've a set of 15" Mi16 Speedlines which i bought as a spare set for whenever i fancy a change from my 1.9 rims. I have some 10mm spacers but i can't try them on yet till i get tyres on them.

Indeed, and on the T16 alloys the spokes do go to the rim and so they look about 2 inches bigger than the Mi16 alloys.

 

PACMAN: you had those refurbed in anthracite?

No, they are refurbished in silver, it was getting dark when i took that pic. Although i had actually wondered what they would look like in antrachite/grey with a polished rim :)

My Mi16 alloys sit in quite far on a 309 GTi (I assume offsets are all the same) and it makes the ride a bit unsettled compared with the standard rims. I bought some universal 10mm spacers but can't use them because they take up all the space between the disc face and the wheel mounting face so the wheel cannot locate on the hub (custom spacers might get round this).

on me mate's 309 gti phase 1 he's got 20mm spacers, and extra long bolts and has no trouble. :angry:

You need hubcentric spacers.

 

I tried putting Mi16 alloys on my old 309 and the tyres rubbed on the trailing arms!

The rear beam might sort out the rear track but the 309 arms won't necessarily increase the track that much as the stuts are still in the same place, hence the negarvie camber.

 

However the front track is wider than the back so it might even it all out.

It's useless to put on a 309 rear beam for the Mi16 alloys cause they rub the trailing arms and not the innerwing. So regardless of which rearbeam you need 10mm spacers.

If you going the length of having some custom machined then you may as well ensure they're hubcentric. However with just 10mm it might be difficult, normally they're 15mm or thicker to be hubcentric but it's probably possible.

 

The reason being that that the centre hub spigot sticks out by nearly 10mm (it's probably less though).

 

But basicaly you wan't 65mm (oversized) on the inside to go over the 65mm spigot and a 65mm ring on the outer side to go in the wheel. But it's worth having the wheel hub hole measured to make sure the undersize and oversize is the right way round.
