Leaky Heater Matrix

Recommended Posts

Smudge

The heater matrix on my Pug has started leaking (it's amazing how much can go wrong on a car that just sits in the garage all winter).

Does anybody know of anything I can do to fix it without removing the dash and doing it properly. Would RadWeld do the trick.

I'd like to know your opinions

Jon

im not a huge fan of radweld etc.

It may well fix it, but it also may well clog up water galleries in the block or hamper flow around the blades of the waterpump.

Id change the matrix.

Don't use rad weld, particles are too big.

Try 'Bars Leaks' - small flat grey bottle, you can get it from Halfrauds, stick it in the expansion tank and go for a drive, mine has been fine with this

But - ideally, change the matrix 'Neo'

Matrix should take you 2 hrs max to change - including refilling the coolant and testing.

Thanks for your advice guys

I've had a look around and it looks like replacing it isn't as expensive as I first thought. The Matrix is only £45.67 from Pug Spares (nowhere near the £300 my dad's girlfriend was charged for the same job on her 306).

Just a quick question though; does the whole dash have to come out to get at it? Or is there another way in?

The dash was a pig to remove - so that's why I wanted to get around replacing it - because the previous owner has changed it all round (area with clock, hazard light switch etc. has all been replaced with a steel sheet and toggle switches), so i'm not sure what else has been done, especially after spending time re-doing the whole loom (wires twisted together with insulation tape).

On the other hand, this dash is good though because it means I can add switches for auxillary lights, rally computers easily.
