Swapping out clocks in instrument cluster

Recommended Posts

Gavin Waddell

Ive got some euro instrument clusters and wanted to fit them in my car (so that i can have the numbers on  the different gauges), the thing is the speedo clock is in KMH and i wanted to fit my one which is in MPH ( i live in europe and imported my car when i moved over here so its RHD,want to keep its identity.

Is it possible to swap out just the speedo.clock frommone cluster to another.

Gavin.

Ps i have a spare euro clock if someone is after one.

Yes.

I have pulled a few speedos to bits, usually to adjust the mileage when swapping from one car to another, its simple enough to swap the speedo, whether You do it inside or outside is immaterial.

No it was straightforward.

Once I had a bad connection on the cluster,(left?) upper edge connector when re-fitting, and the fuel gauge stopped working, that was just a re-assembly error in poor light, on my part.

Steady away on a well lit bench and whilst Your at it, clean up the copper tracks on the flexible PCB where all the bayonet fit bulb holders go as they dull over time and can cause poor bulb illumination.

While you're at it you can lubricate the trip odometer reset mechanism with some dry PTFE spray. With time it jams and eventually breaks when you mash the button too many times.
