Exhaust heatshield

I am getting my 1.9 GTI back to original spec.

 

My current work is the fitment of an original airbox and all of the air intake tubing. 

 

Someone reckons there should be a heatshield between the top of the exhaust downpipe and the air intake tubing and airbox.

 

Can anyone please advise Yes or No?

No, there is one attached to the bulkhead where the downpipe is, one around the gearstick area, under the tank and the always missing one above the rear silencer.

they are probably all still there, you just may not have noticed them

they are lightweight aluminum pieces shaped to slot between the exhaust and the car body attached by M6? bolts with M10 nuts

run down the front of the bulkhead/firewall and along under the car linking up piece by piece

the last little rear silencer piece is on its lonesome down the back under the boot

5, 6, 7, 9 and 10 are the front heatshield sections
