Leaky CTi - Any suggestions for how to prevent?

Hey all,

I was about to install carpets and realized this 205 is holding some water in an usual spot..

The car has probably always leaked I've probably just taken a while to notice it..  It does have a new (3 month old) roof.

Any idea

1. Where it might be leaking from?  This is the main body of water that is left over after it rains.

2. Why it's not draining away out from the car through the sills?

I've tried the hose pipe method and can't seem to replicate the fault, sadly I don't have a pressure washer.  The car is parked in a desperately exposed place so is battered by sideways rain a lot of the year (Yorkshire).

I cant say i have experienced this with mine, the only leak i did have was under the rear passenger seats and that was via the old vinyl roof that was way past it s best. in recent years it is now garaged and only comes out in the summer and when its dry. My guess would be the window scrapers, have yours shrunk much ? with regards to draining away from the seals have you checked to see if they are blocked ?

Yea the window weatherstrips / scrapers have shrunk a fair amount.  Is there any way to validate this as a source of the water?

When you talk about "seals" do you mean the window scrapers or the weather stripping around the door or the windscreen or A frame or all of the above? :)

Is there a good method to validate if the seals you are talking about are blocked?  If so, which method is preferred?  Poor a jug of water down past the door glass into the door when the window is down?

As said i have not experienced this myself and so is just all guesswork. if you soak up all the water currently there, have a hose on a fine mist as possible and aim it so water hits the windows and runs down on to the scrapers and so into the door then check to see if you have a puddle. I would also check it after about 10-15 mins just in case it takes a while for the water to run its course. If you are getting no water that eliminates them to some extent.

If you open the door on the inside at the bottom i think there are 1 or 2 drain holes check that these are clear, also check the door seal to make sure that has not perished but also fitted properly in case water is getting in through or under that. On your first pic there is a puddle of water sitting on top of the door seal, has that come from inside the door or under the door down into the footwell.

Also check the door seal is fitted tight in the corner and there aren't any gaps underneath it that would allow water to run down into to the footwell.

I am sure someone on here will be able to confirm if this is correct or not, when i stripped to inside of mine summer before last I remember coming across some kind of plastic/ rubber tube that looks like it acts as some kind of drainage from somewhere, i cant remember if this was in the footwell, the door or the wing. I only remember it because whatever it was, was clogged with dirt and so cleaned it all out.

In case you are not aware youngtimers i think are preparing another batch of door seals and window scrapers, they are not cheap by any means, make sure you are sitting down if you take a look. but if it is the scrapers or door seals other then buying other used ones also getting on for 30 years old is the only other option but of course no guarantees this is the answer. I replaced mine more for cosmetic reasons because they had badly shrunk and starting to split.

Thanks for your input, I'll give this a shot.

RE the rubber sat on the door seal, I think that dropped down from the corner of the hood when I opened the door.

RE youngtimers - I've got another CTi with their new rubbers on and I'm not massively impressed with them for the price but it's still better than 30 year old rubber..

I'll come back shortly with my findings :)  Thanks!
