Welding wishbones

Looking to add rose joints to a pair of new Delphi wishbones (309 correct shape ones).

Does anyone happen to know anything on the metallurgy of these, guessing they are forged mild steel of some description. The plan was to cut the ball joint out, slot the end and fit a mild steel section with an M18 female thread for the rose joint. Just hoping gor advice on the welding side to ensure the correct grade materials are used.

I assume they’re a med carbon cast steel. I’d pre and post heat to avoid any issues.

Tom Fenton has made some, might be worth asking if he would make you some or offer some input.

bit of a waste doing it to new wishbones though, do you not have any tired ones to hand?   a 205 wishbone would do the trick, they are stronger infact as they have all the lattice work/ribs on them,

The real gains are made from adding caster, in addition to camber. Why don't you go the full hog?

I do have a fairly decent pair of OE 205 wishbones as well which I was think I may use if they will give me the extension required. Looking for around 35mm extra, waiting on the rose joints to arrive so I can decide.

I did consider some fully adjustable ones but in all honesty its a bit of a show pony Dimma (part replica part genuine) so it just needs to drive nice. It will never be flogged round a track etc. just looking to gain extra width to fill the arches without using silly offsets or big spacers
