New torsion bars

Recommended Posts

Jimarilo

Hi I am looking for new torsion bars for a 309

Apparently they had a different number of splines on the torsion bars (28/30 iic where the later ones have 30/32)

Mine is a Mk1 309 .......anyone know where to get them ???

If I have more than two people in the car the back goes down and the handbrake gets tight and comes on ........so am guessing the bars are well passed their sell by date and have lost their strength

309 only had one crosstube throughout the range. Apart from gti16 which has different crosstube altogether.

What size bars you have currently? Gti are 20mm x 3.

Uprated bars readily available in various sizes. I stock a few different sizes

The splines number problem is only on the 205, all 309 should have the later type bars. Stock diameters are 18.5, 18.7, 19.3 and 20mm.

You can also find cheap Peugeot Partner/405 bars that are often stiffer, look for 1030mm torsion bars with 32/30 splines.

The 309 bars are 1028.5mm so you may need to grind them a bit on the 30 spline side.

If the handbrake is coming on with supension travel you need  new cables , had that with a 205 years ago , on a bump with someone in the back it would try to lock the wheels up , new cable sorted it .
