ArthurH 7 Posted Friday at 08:10 PM Having had to remove quite a bit of it, I am begrudgingly impressed by the tenacious nature of the original sealant. Does anyone know if it is still available? I know there are modern equivalents e.g., Tiger Seal, but I am curious if it is still out there.
Leslie green 110 Posted Saturday at 11:32 AM I suspect it would contain all sorts of banned nasties and is long since obsolete plus modern sealers with technology advances should be better though as with many things nowadays this may not be the case . Are you talking about the underbody coating or the seam sealer along the sill to 1/4 panel joins , I just used tigerseal there . I think 3m did a sealer like the underbody stuff that came in small bags but it would work out very expensive to get enough for a floor .
ArthurH 7 Posted Saturday at 06:30 PM I hadn't thought about banned nasties It was the seam sealer I was specifically impressed with, but I hadn't realised the underbody 'underseal', was different stuff (excuse my use of technical terminology). It all appears to be the same consistent butter-colored stuff. So as an example, is the stuff coating the inside of the under windscreen scuttle (e.g., behind the wiper motor) different from that used along the seams? Leslie green 110 Posted Saturday at 10:42 PM Is it the same ? ..I don't really know , the stuff on the outer sill joins cracked with age and went brittle but that's probably due to uv sun damage . The under body rubber type stuff over the complete floorpan lasted amazingly well and mine was mostly like new bar a few cracks so left as is and over coated with Gravitex with is a modern hard coating not flexible like the original stuff . I suspect the sealer in the sill join and under the windscreen is the same stuff though yes but ive no idea who supplied it but any modern seam sealer should be just as good , Wurth is a very good brand and should be excellent oe quality Don't get old style brush able stuff from a tin as this tends to crack get it in a tube but most is supplied that way now anyway.
