Be1 to Be3

Hi guys 

what changes are required to change a be1 box into a be3-5 box? 
 

Currently Be1 205 gti box into Be3 box from a 306? 
 

What shift rods and cable Can be used?

Same gear rods, swap top arm on the 306 for the 205 arm, 2 roll pins to knock out, take care not to allow the shaft to drop into the gearbox end disengage from its slot on the cross shaft inside the box.

 

Make sure you use a push clutch arm and fork, a few variants of 306 use a pull clutch with matching arm which wont be compatible with your clutch.

 

Use a post 1990 clutch pedal, and a post 1990 clutch cable, if the car is earlier than 89 the hole in the pedal box may need opening out.

 

Swap  the 205 diff into the 306 gearbox, crack all the diff bolts 1/4 turn and make sure the crownwheel is loose and not tight against the side of the bolts, this will prevent the threads from getting damaged.

 

Or Alternatively order new bolts.

 

(The 306 diffs have larger planet gears therefore have a shorter stub on the nearside cv joint)

 

Swap the 205 speedo drive gears and speedo drive over.
