Rust removal on cam pulleys - vapour blasting

Recommended Posts

hoodygoodwood

I am building an mi16 engine and like a lot of long stored parts i have surface rust on my cam pulleys , i am going to have a lot of parts plated or blasted but all the pulleys seem to have a finish different to anything else and i don't think the usual zinc passivate would be right . I have had a couple of small castings vapour blasted in the past and i think this might be ideal for the cam pulleys and the one on the crank nose . What have people done on here and does anyone have any experience of this ?

My cam pulley was zinc plated after vapour blasting on my 1.9 gti , it turned out great but he said sometimes the coating wont take whatever was on then before.

I’d clean it off and run them as is. Nobody will see them under the belt cover.
