Engine and fuel pump confusion

Recommended Posts

Good evening!

I'm digging deeper into the 205 that I picked up last week. I'm having some confusion about it.
According to the VIN, it should be a 1.1 TBI model with a cat. The identification plate on the engine is almost completely unreadable. I can only make out the bottom row, but this does not seem to usable. The number on the cylinder head reads 9610923010.

Now I'm unsure what engine is actually in the car, and what it's stock configuration is meant to be. Either the car has always been fit with a carburettor, or someone has done some extensive modifications.
The car has a catalytic converter fitted, the plugs from the O2 sensor are just dangling there.

The car has a choke lever, and a choke light on the instrument cluster. I also cannot find what's going on with the fuel tank. I have purchased a Haynes manual for the car, but in no configuration does it show what I have in my car. Here is what it looks like under the back seat:

I lifted the cover on the left, and it just has a pipe with a sock on it going to the bottom of the tank. That's not the original fuel tank then, is it?
Can't spot an electric pump anywhere. The fuel line is also neatly clipped into the bottom of the car, but it's a clear tube. Looks factory almost.

Did someone really go through the effort to fit a carb, a dash for a carb equipped car, and a carb fuel tank?

I'm really unsure now if this car was originally fitted with a carb or with TBI. Parts of the wiring loom for the TBI are there, but just dangling, yet the rest of the car seems entirely built for a carb.
