Gti front bumper slider kit..

Recommended Posts

GTI_E369

Hi all,

Apologies for this, as I know this topic has been raised beforehand, I've read a lot of other posts but want to check something.

I've bought a 'complete slider and fitting kit' for my 205 but I want to check that I'm right in thinking the supplied t head bolts are wrong.

I've popped a couple of pics below, the problem i see is that the t bolts supplied, which allow the head to be flush in under the red stripe are far to long. In addition to this, the bolt isn't threaded all the way so unless something like another rubber bush bridges the gap it will never tighten up. My suspicion is the bolts supplied are for base models.

I also have serious doubts over the reproduction of the slider it's self, which I know has also been discussed before hand, but you can see the difference in dimensions from the badly rusted original part.

Confirmation would be greatly appreciated before I respond to the company I got the kit from.

Thanks Gareth

There is a shorter T bolt for the Gti front yes , the original type ones still pop up on ebay or as part of the bumper fitting kit I think too .pics here on miami stu/ some of the non original T bolts don't fit /taper into the bumper that well as they are not bevelled either end . I would have though the sliders were fully tested before going into production and maybe its a quality control issue but unless people speak up to the seller with feedback then they may be unaware there is an issue.

Brilliant, thanks for confirming. I think my original slider brackets might go again, I'll get them sand blasted and see what's left, lol!

In that diagram, it's the shorter t bolt '9' that looks to be required, I've seen Baker sell the shorter t bolts so think I'll get some and the bush with hex nut and fingers crossed the old brackets will go again. I've manged to knock the old rubber out this evening and had a little poke around of the brackets.

I'll send the ones I've bought back and get a refund.

Thanks again, help always massively appreciated.

I might have a pair of the shorter t bolts left over from when I replaced my sliders earlier this year. I'll take a look tomorrow if it's any help to you?

Took a  look in the shed this morning.

These are the ones I have left over.

I never tried fitting them as I went for the full kits from baker in the end.

I'm not sure where I got them from either sorry.

I believe the longer ones are for the rear just put them for comparison.

I may be wrong on this but if I remember correctly just click on my name then hit the centre envelope symbol in the middle.

I don't think "Passenger" newer members with low post counts can PM? Its been a long time. I've been into the Admin screen but can't seem to change it for GTI_E369.

Maybe the solution for now is you guys exchange email addresses or phone numbers.
